Cookies and localStorage are different
Cookies are small values that a browser may send back to a website with requests. LocalStorage is a separate browser store that site scripts can read on the same origin; it is not automatically attached to requests. Both can remember choices and should be explained clearly.
What this static site uses
The supplied website code sets no cookies and includes no analytics, advertising, behavioral profiling or third-party embedded media. Its preference controls use localStorage only when you choose a setting. Ordinary browser caching may retain page assets to improve loading; this is not an advertising profile.
| Key | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| ottervelvetrain-cookie-preference | Remembers “accepted” or “essential” on this device and origin | Until changed or removed by you or your browser |
The value contains no name, email address, observing message or unique visitor identifier. Accepting does not turn on optional cookies: none are included in this static site. Choosing Essential Only does not restrict access to the fieldbook.
Your browser preference
Save a choice for this browser, or remove the stored choice entirely.
Field notes are not stored here
The field-note composer keeps its working text in the current page only. A copied note goes to your device’s clipboard and a downloaded note becomes a file you control. The site does not save either in cookies or localStorage.
Changing your settings
You can remove the preference above or clear this site’s data in your browser settings. Preferences do not automatically transfer between browsers, devices or private browsing sessions. Blocking localStorage may prevent a choice from being remembered but does not stop you reading the guides.
