Who is responsible

Ottervelvetrain Ltd is responsible for personal information handled through this website and its editorial correspondence. Our registered office is 31 High Street, Kendal LA9 4ED, United Kingdom; company no. 15279406. Contact [email protected] for privacy questions or requests.

Reading the website

The static pages contain no analytics scripts, advertising trackers, embedded social widgets or account system. Images, styles and scripts are loaded from this site. Delivering a website necessarily involves technical information such as an IP address, requested file, browser details and request time. Hosting infrastructure may process access and security logs to deliver the service and investigate faults or abuse.

Where we process such technical information, our lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable website. Technical records should be kept only as long as needed for those purposes and any applicable legal obligations, with access limited to people and service providers who need it.

The field-note composer

The contact tool generates text in your browser. It does not submit your topic or message to a server and does not save drafts in localStorage. Copying places the text on your device’s clipboard at your request; downloading creates a file on your device. Those copies remain under your control. Reloading or leaving the page may discard an unfinished draft, subject to your browser’s own form-restoration behavior.

Browser preferences

If you use the controls on the Cookies page, a preference is stored in localStorage under ottervelvetrain-cookie-preference. The value records only your choice, not your message or identity. It remains until changed or cleared. See Cookies for details and controls.

If you email us

Choosing to send an email gives us the address, message and any information or attachments you include. We use them to respond, review corrections and maintain necessary correspondence records. Our usual lawful basis is legitimate interests in answering enquiries and maintaining the publication. Where a request concerns legal rights or obligations, processing may instead be necessary for compliance with law.

We retain correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the matter and keep an appropriate record, normally no longer than 24 months after closure unless a legal obligation or active dispute requires longer. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not necessary for the enquiry.

Service providers and external sites

Hosting and email providers may process information to provide their services. Personal information is not sold or used for targeted advertising. If a provider processes information outside the United Kingdom, applicable transfer safeguards must be used where required, such as adequacy arrangements or approved contractual protections.

External reference links lead to independently operated websites with their own privacy practices. Following them may disclose normal connection and referral information to the destination. We do not control those websites.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. We may need proportionate information to verify a request. Contact us using the email above; you may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
